OSHOGATSU CONCERT
A Japanese Musical New Year Celebration With Koto & Shakuhachi

Celebrate the new year, Zen Garden style with Japanese traditional and new
music with Koto player, Yuki Yasuda and Shakuhachi player, Shih-wei Wu.
The concert will feature some iconic works by ‘Haru no Umi’, ‘E-tenraku variations’,
and ‘Roku-dan no Shirabe’. Also, the duo will premiere “Tokyo Ghost Story 2” a new
composition by Shih-wei composed for this special occasion.
The celebration will be broadcasted via Facebook Watch Party and Instagram.

About the performers:

Yuki Yasuda is a Japanese koto player based in Los Angeles, California. She was born in
Japan and began playing the koto at age twelve. She later majored in koto music at the
Takasaki Junior Arts College and also received rigorous koto instruction under the tutelage
of Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai, the masters of great modern koto music. Yuki performs
extensively as a soloist, with ensemble groups and collaborated with musicians and composers

Shih-wei Wu is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and movement artist.
With a background in Classical music and Japanese folk music. Shih-wei performs
and writes music that reflects his Taiwanese heritage and the diasporic communities
of Los Angeles. Shih-wei’s latest project is Red Eye 2 Tokyo, which has just released
